Oster Admits Mistake

John Oster has put his hands up and has admitted that it was his mistake that let Blackburn take all three points at the Madejski Stadium last Saturday.

The Welsh winger replaced Glen Little with seven minutes to spare as the Rovers held the Royals to a 1-1 draw.

Disaster struck for the player as with his first touch he unwittingly played David Bentley through on goal with a cracker of a shot whicvh turned out to be the match winner.

“It was my wayward pass after I had come on that contributed to their goal. It was a bad day for me,” confessed Oster.

But the former Everton and Sunderland player cannot work out why he was left out of the starting eleven to begin with.
Oster had started the previous three matches as Glen Little had been out with an hamstring injury.

And although Reading had drawn and lost in two of those fixtures, Oster`s personal performance had been outstanding – setting up Kevin Doyle to score the winner in the Bolton game and picking up an assist in Reading`s 3-2 defeat to Newcastle.

Speaking to Reading`s Evening Post the bemused winger pondered on Steve Coppell`s decision to drop him:

“Of course it`s hard to take. I am scratching my head wondering what more I have to do. The manager has brought Blakey (Little) back in and we`ve not had the result we wanted.

“He didn`t really give me a reason but I just have to take it. It`s his team. It doesn`t matter how much whingeing you do, he`s not going to change his mind.”

But Oster is determined not to give up on a place in Reading`s first team without a fight:

“My attitude towards training won`t change, that goes without saying.”
Meanwhile Steve Coppell stood by his decision to give Little the nod ahead of Oster:

“Glen`s been the main man. He had a hamstring injury but has been itching to get back, so I thought with it being a home game he would get on the ball a bit more.

“He didn`t get as much of the ball as we would have liked, but we weren`t productive enough, especially in the second half.”
