No need to panic

It’s fair to say that the defeat to Blackpool on Saturday was disappointing but manager Brian McDermott has insisted there is no need to panic.

He told Readingfc.co.uk, ‘We didn’t do ourselves justice in this game but we have certainly done ourselves justice over a period of games. I said that to the players afterwards.’

He admitted that the players were not at the races today and deserved to take nothing back to Berkshire, but he was frustrated with the pitch at Bloomfield Road and the fact his side didn’t play the way they needed to.

‘If you come here and play on a pitch like that, you have to play a certain way and we didn’t do that.’

He also had comforting words for the fans who travelled to Lancashire, ‘I’m sorry for the fans who travelled a long way to watch us and we are disappointed to lose the game.’

Attentions now turn to the FA Cup again on Wednesday night with a fifth round replay against West Brom, and the Royals will be desperate to book a quarter final place.

12 points from 15 would have been accepted by most when McDermott was appointed full time. He is right, there is nothing to worry about.
