Luton boss Mike Newwll almost broke into a smile last night as watched his side end Reading’s unbeaten record at Kenilworth Road last night.

The Hatters won the game with goals from Rowan Vine who hit a brace and another from Dean Morgan. For Reading, Kevin Doyle struck in the first minute and then again as the game went into injury time, but by then it was too late.

Newell said: ‘I did fancy us to beat them, but I didn’t want to say it because I said it the last time we played them and it rebounded on us.

‘If we play decent football we’re capable of beating anybody here and I just felt Reading would lose again before the end of the season.

‘We’re delighted at beating them, not because it ends their unbeaten run, but because they’re the best team in the division.’

Steve Coppell popped his head back round the press-room door last night to ask for the code to open the exit door. The Reading manager may not know his way out of Bramall Lane, but he has the key to the Barclays Premiership after this result.
