Adam Federici has put pen to paper on a new contract at the club after speculation linking him with a move away. The Aussie stopper had been out of contract at the end of the season but has signed a deal to stay at the Mad Stad until 2013.

He spoke to the official site after signing the deal and said, ‘I’m very happy here and this is great news.’

Brian McDermott was also delighted to have secured the services of his number 1 keeper. ‘He wanted to be here at Reading, he wants to play for this club and our fans.’

The news may now mean that at least one of our young goalkeepers will be sold in January. Ben Hamer is out of contract in the summer and the one likely to depart.

He’s still such a long way from Hahnemman though. He reminds me a touch of Stack, in that he’s a great shot stopped but is prone to the odd error. Happy with him as a solid back up, but surely you can do better, no?

You’ve been away to long Dave!! Federici is a class goalkeeper, has improved greatly in the last year and a half, and is a million times better than Graham Stack!
