Royals captian Graeme Murty played 90 minutes as he helped the reserves keep a clean sheet in their win at Swansea.
Murty played an unfamiliar role at centre-back as the Royals second-string cruised to a 3-0 win.
New signing Dave Mooney and surplus-to-requiremnts centre back Sam Sodje also got 90 minutes under their belts but young full-back Julian Kelly stole the show with a superb individual goal.
Kelly opened the scoring for Reading after 49 minutes. The full-back gained possesion wide in Swansea’s half, played a delightful one-two with Noel Hunt, before dinking a lovely finish over the on-rushing Swansea ‘keeper.
An own goal from Albert Serran, on loan from Espanyol, made it 2-0 to Reading, before Oliver Bozanic got a late third.
Reading coach Nigel Gibbs was very impressed with the perfomance, despite the poor weather.
He said, ‘I was very pleased with every one of the lads in really difficult conditions.
‘There was a swirling wind and howling rain but we put in a very professional performance to win the game.
‘Julian Kelly’s goal would have graced any game you’d care to see, it was a lovely goal. His celebration had to be seen to be believed though!
‘Daniel Spence was excellent in the centre of midfield and numbers 1 to 11 all showed superb application.
‘Fedders was fantastic in goal, they put us under a bit of pressure but he was great on crosses and things coming into the box and had a couple of saves to make.
‘Last but not least Murts and Sodj got full games under their belt and it was a good night.’
