More Nonsense From Sonko

Not that anyone really cares, but Ibrahima Sonko has decided to give a new version as to why he refused to play for the reserves back in April.

Sonko who seems to just like seeing his name in print, has had several u-turns since his suspension for missing the reserve game, going from wanting to stay at the club, to definitely leaving, to wanting to stay, to… you get the picture.

After originally using fear of getting injured, and lack of fitness as an excuse for not playing, he has now decided to blame it on fear of losing his concentration.

Somewhat unconvincingly, Sonko said, ‘The reason I didn`t play (in the reserves) was because I made a mistake for Adebayor`s goal.

‘Apart from that I thought I had played quite well and my confidence was up again. But I didn`t play in the next game at Wigan. I was still training well and was happy and I thought playing in the reserves would have been bad for my concentration and focus and that is why I refused to play.

‘I wanted to be fully focused and prepared for the last three games, but I wasn`t used.

‘I had no problem with the fine, but I didn`t agree with the ban.

‘I didn`t understand why there were questions about my commitment to Reading because I have a really good relationship with the manager and the club and had always given my best.

‘I took it quite badly, but there are no hard feelings and I have a lot of respect for the manager. I know it was a decision that he made for the best of the team.’

After some pretty awful displays last season, despite being a key part of the promotion team, I think most Reading fans would agree it will be in the best interest of both parties if Sonko leaves.

The man who was affectionately known as Superman, must have swallowed some kryptonite, as he gave away four penalties almost in back-to-back games. Hampered by injury, Sonko seems to be past his best and any bid that comes in for the Senegal international should be seriously considered.

Please, just stop talking!! I hope he goes tbh, he was a good player, but now he’s a liability!

Agreed. He isn’t the same player he used to be, and we’ve got plenty of cbs who can more than fill the void.

    Yeah deadwood……. hope he goes!

  • Robertski says:

Maybe a season in the Championship could rebuild him. He was a stonking defender for us before his injury. i Say give another chance !!

I agree he was quality last time round, but I’d rather see Bikey back there and would like to see Pearce pushing for a start. If we were offered 2mill for him, I’d say thats very good business.

  • Robertski says:

I think Bikey will be along side Marek in the middle though !

Yep, cud be right on that one, I suppose we’ll just have to sit back and see what happens over the next couple of months.
