Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood has hit out at his team’s defending in their 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday, which saw them concede a poor goal in the last 10 minutes.

Leigertwood put his team deservedly in-front on 71 minutes but the Royals defence switched-off from a throw in to allow Steve de Ridder to run on and score an equaliser for the league leaders.

The former QPR player told the Reading Post: ‘It’s frustrating and we have to address conceding another sloppy goal. We’re pleased with our performance and hopefully we can pick up three points next time out.’

‘We’ve been playing well recently, have played teams at the top of the league and made them look average in certain parts. When we’re on top of our game we know we’re a match for anyone.’

Leigertwood put in a fine performance against the Saints, coming close to scoring in the first half with a 30-yard rocket. He was duely awarded the man-of-the-match award.
