According to reports today, Leeds United have supposedly reached an agreement with Reading FC to sign midfielder John Swift in the summer.

In a Royals side that has struggled this season, Swift has managed to turn in a few impressive performances which has reportedly captured the eye of Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa, with the promotion chasing clubs boss said to be a big fan of the 23 year old.

Swift still has three years left to run on his contract with Jose Gomes’ team, but if these rumours are true, it would be hard for the creative midfielder to turn down a move which could entail playing Premier League football next season. The reports suggest that a deal has already been agreed, and will go through despite whichever division both teams find themselves playing in next season.

I think this would get a mixed reaction amongst Reading fans. Although Swift was incredible in his first six months in Berkshire, he suffered an ankle injury that kept him out for a couple of months and realistically has not been the same player ever since, which has led to some frustration amongst the Royals faithful.

For me personally, I think Swift is a player Reading could have for years to come and is someone we should look to hold onto, but if bigger teams come calling, the Royals could be at their mercy.
