McDermott talks Bristol City

After stepping in at the last minute to take charge of the game following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers, McDermott opted to revert to a 4-4-2 formation and had his side pressing higher up the pitch and the result was a very good performance. “It`s been a tough week, an emotional week, with Brendan going, but I thought the players handled it really, really well today.”

McDermott can feel very pleased with himself after his two second half substitutes combined to score the equalising goal, with Jimmy Kebe crossing for Simon Church, and he was full of praise for the duo. “I thought we were always in with a shout, and we kept doing what we had to do, and then Jimmy got a good cross into the box and Churchy finished it really well.”

However the resulting celebrations saw Church sent off for a second bookable offence, and the Caretaker manager thought he was unlucky to see red. “I thought it was unfortunate, I think he`s been pushed into the crowd more than anything and momentum has taken him into the crowd. The refs probably seen it a different way but I thought he was unlucky.”

He was of course asked about the chance of him taking the job on a permanent basis, but he played this down. “I`ll just keep doing what I am doing. There is no point looking back, or looking too far forward.”

He also spoke about the excellent travelling support who he felt kept the players going and inspired the team to get the point they deserved. “Our fans were terrific today too – they kept the players going. They were fabulous!”
