Reading manager Brian McDermott could be on the verge of a shock move to Wolverhampton Wanderers, after he was revealed as the Premier League club’s first choice for their vacant managers post.

Days ago, as reported here on Vital Reading, Director of Football Nicky Hammond denied any sort of link between the 50-year old and Wolves. However, in a strange turn of events, McDermott has already held talks with the Premier League club last night and due for more talks today.

Nothing has been officially confirmed by the club but numerous sources have stated McDermott is their main candidate for the job, as Steve Bruce wouldn’t be a favoured choice with the fans. Lee Clark and Brighton’s Gus Poyet have also been mentioned but could struggle to agree compensation with Brighton.

It was also reported that the former Arsenal player could also have talks with Reading’s potential new owner Anton Zingarevich. The Russian tycoon is keen to keep McDermott at the club, after the fine progress he has made with the Royals since taking over in December 2009.

A question which is posing in people’s mind is why McDermott has had talks with Wolves, when the club have not officially given him permission to do so. The owner of the Premier League side has said they will have someone in charge by the weekend, but if McDermott is their wanted man, the process could take a while longer.

More to follow in the coming days….
