Reading manager Brian McDermott has praised Stevenage for their performance against his side yesterday afternoon and admitting his side were certainly for from their best.
A 20th minute Darius Charles goal was enough to see the League One side through, who outplayed the visitors on their own turf. Its a disappointing start and end to an FA Cup campaign, that has proved a fantastic boost for the Royals in the past two years.
McDermott told the official RFC site: ‘Congratulations to Stevenage, they set their team up well. Graham Westley is a good manager in my opinion and we’ve come second today. They’ve not lost away from home for a long time, and they deserved to win, I have to say that.’
‘I don’t kid myself. It’s a disappointing day for us today, but we’ve had a lot of good days. We have to take it on the chin, I thought we were too nice on the day, we didn’t win enough tackles and second balls. We have to make sure in a game like that whatever happens we don’t concede a goal.’
With no more cup competitions to worry McDermott, he will now focus exclusively on the league. The next game is away at Watford next Saturday, where we will kick of at 5.20pm. The game will also be televised on Sky Sports.
