Reading could be set to make there first move in this seasons transfer market, with the signing on Irish striker Karl Sheppard from Shamrock Rovers, accoring to SkySports.com.

The 20-year old has caught the eye of many scouts around the Football League with some fine performances in the Irish league. McDermott has been to Ireland on numerous occasions to scout players, with Sheppard reportedly high on his list.

After playing for Galway United, he joined Shamorck in January 2011, where he scored nine goals in 23 appearences. Sheppard also scored in the Europa League group stage against PAOK Salonika.

Karl could follow in the footsteps of former strikers Kevin Doyle and Shane Long, who had successful careers at the Madejski Stadium before moving onto bigger challenges in the Premier League.

Rumours have been circulating around social networking site Twitter that the Royals could also be in for Blackburn striker Jason Roberts, who is surplus to requirements at Ewood Park.
