Reading manager Brian McDermott has sung the praises of his goalkeeper Adam Federici, classifying him as a top class keeper.

The 27-year old signed an extension to his current deal on Thursday, keeping him at the Madejski Stadium until 2015 and McDermott is ecstatic to have signed on one of his key players on a long-term deal. Federici has remained McDermott’s number one choice throughout his managerial reign with the Royals, repaying his faith with some fine performances between the sticks.

Speaking to the Reading FC Official website, McDermott said: ‘I am really pleased to have secured Adam for another three years. I have known him for a number of years now, it seems like time has flown and he has constantly been developing into a top class goalkeeper. His workrate, diligence and desire are second to none and we’re delighted he’s chosen to commit to us again.’

The Australian international will play some part in this afternoon’s friendly with Bournemouth, after recovering from a slight rib problem which has kept him out of previous friendlies. There is no doubt that Federici was the best goalkeeper in England outside the Premier League last season, conceding the least amounts of goals in the Championship and keeping the most clean sheets.
