This is some of what the Steve Coppell had to say after Reading’s narrow 1-0 Carling Cup victory over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Coppell told the post-match press, as published on readingfc.co.uk “I thought we came through one hell of a stiff test tonight.

“We had to play half an hour with ten men and then the extra half hour. And in the end, it was just that extra little bit of sharpness in the box that worked our way.

“For an evenings work we may have paid the price but we wanted to go through. In everything we did tonight I think we showed our desire to be in the next round.

“We were playing against a very good side. I want to compliment Swansea. I’ve watched a couple of their games and they play effective football which is pleasing on the eye. I knew this was going to be a difficult test.

“But all in all, I felt we had the better chances. We were beaten comprehensively on Saturday so it was nice to get a win tonight.”

It was a real battle, but it just showed the character of this Reading side once again.

Coppell is right to compliment Swansea, they deserve it, good luck to them this season.

Cheers MR, I thought we played some superb football last night, but we were not clinical in front of goal. I hope this doesn’t become a habit this season because we really need to get out of League 1.

You are more than welcome, you could have easily got more, and probably deserved more. Good luck this season.
