A very experienced Reading XI line up beat a youthful Southampton side 3-0 at Hogwood yesterday afternoon, with Mathieu Manset getting on the score sheet.

The team sheet was packed out with current and past internationals such as Ian Harte and Brynjar Gunnarsson. The game also a saw a return to action for loanee Bongani Khumalo who has recovered from injury.

It did not take the Royals long to score the first goal as a fantastic run from playmaker Lawson D’Ath led to striker Noel Hunt tapping in to top-off a good move.

The youthful Southampton side did themselves proud in the second half by holding off the Royals until the final minutes when Manset rounded off the scoring.

Alex McCarthy was rarely tested in the Reading goal, partly down to the strong and experienced defence in-front of him. Eamonn Dolan will be very impressed with his side’s performance.

Reading then doubled their lead later on in the half. Good work in the midfield allowed Hunt to get down the wing and hit cross-shot ball which was parried by the Saints keeper and tapped in by Jordan Obita.
