Reading boss Brian McDermott has emerged as a surprise candidate for the vacant manager post at Leicester, after Sven-Goran Eriksson left the club on Monday.

The Guardian have reported that the Foxes board are keen to appoint a manager with Championship experience and with Simon Grayson and Martin O’Neill dismissing their interest, they could approach McDermott.

However, it is likely McDermott would turn this opportunity down but has been known to state his interest in the Republic of Ireland job when Giovanni Trapattoni retires.

The former Slough managers work at Reading has not gone un-noticed. He made them relegation candidates to promotion contenders in a period of one and a half years, leading them to the play-off final in 2011.

Other names linked with the job are Huddersfield boss Lee Clark, Mark Hughes, Billy Davies, Dave Jones and even former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez.
