It has been revealed that Sir John Madejski will be the chairman of Reading Football Club for two more years.

The 72-year old accepted the proposal made by owner Anton Zingarevich, who is yet to complete his 100% takeover of the Championship club. Madejski was originally going to step down from his role at the end of the current season, but will remain chairman for at least two more years.

Quoted by the Reading Post, Sir John said: ‘I’ve been asked to stay on for two more years which I’ve accepted. I’ve always had the best interests of Reading FC at heart. I’m quite happy to be chairman going forward. We’re entering a very exciting period of time.’

This decision probably has very little to do with Anton’s takeover of the club, he may well have asked SJM to stay on irrespective of whether he completed the deal. Madejski was also questioned about the delay and was unconcerned, so let’s all calm down!
