Reading chairman Sir John Madejski has given a feisty response to critics questioning his management over transfer funds at RFC.

Reading fans vented their frustration at their clubs owner after the Royals’ 2-1 defeat to Barnsley and the lack of transfer activity, despite the sales of Shane Long and Matt Mills, which accumulated around £10m in revenue.

The 70-year old owner spoke to the media following the defeat and with thanks to the official RFC site and Reading Post, we will quote some of the transcript.

When questioned about the fans chants directed to him he responded by saying:

‘I`m p****d off. Everyone is frustrated, none more than the players, the manager, me, the board and the fans. Everybody is frustrated. Sadly two penalties were taken, but saved very well.’

Sir John was also asked about the current transfer budget and if there will be any funds available, despite the sale of key players:

‘There is money, we have budgets that we work to and there is a bit of scope for some more deals before the 31st. You don`t know that[How much was received in transfer funds]. You don`t know what the net figure was after bits and pieces were paid out and commission.’

Following this, he was asked if anyone would be coming in?

‘I`m sure something will happen. I have no doubt about that. But these things are rather clandestine in this day and age due to the fact that as soon as you mention anything you put yourself at a disadvantage.’

Madejski also continued to talk about the wage budget, breaking even and income from last year’s FA Cup and Play-off run. The full interview can be seen here.
