Madejski refusing to give up hope

We are relegated and we all know it, but chairman Sir John Madejski still hasn’t got the heart to admit it yet.

The 71-year old is still the chairman of the club, with Anton Zingarevich as the owner, but will give up his place to the Russian next year or 2015. Despite Madejski admitting it will take a miracle to keep us up, he was keen to emphasis we need to understand how far Reading have come as a club in the past few years.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, the chairman said: ‘It’s not over until the fat lady sings and she’s not singing just yet. Of course it would take something very special indeed for us not to be playing in the Championship next season. Reading always punches way above its weight and will continue to do so.’

‘Funny things happen in football and if I don’t have the belief as Chairman then how can I expect anyone else to have it? So I’d never condemn Reading until anything is confirmed. Everybody plays their part in that, from the receptionists on the front desk to owner Anton Zingarevich.’
