Reading were not involved in the League Cup first round yesterday, but just a quick-round up of results that affected the Royals.

Former striker Simon Church scored a double for his new club Charlton, as they thrashed local rivals Oxford United 4-0 at the Valley. The Welsh international was released by Reading at the end of last season, but moved to the Championship side on a permanent deal last week.

Saturday’s opponents Bolton Wanderers were victorious in their first round tie at Shrewsbury, winning 3-1. Dougie Freedman made five changes to the team that drew with Burnley on Saturday, but once again, no sign of Matt Mills. It seems Bolton have woke up and smelt the coffee.

The second round draw will take place tomorrow afternoon at 12.30pm, being shown live on Sky Sports. Reading were given a bye in the first round, along with Wigan, but will be in Thursday’s draw with the majority of the Premier League sides.
