You don’t play over 40 games for Real Madrid if you are no good, nonetheless, Jobi McAnuff is confident Royston Drenthe will make a good start to his Reading career.

The 26-year old opted to make the move to the second tier of English football, which shocked many. Despite this reputation and having a cap for Holland to his name, the Royals skipper says that Drenthe has great ability to grace the Championship.

Speaking to the Reading Post, McAnuff commented on his team mate by saying: ‘Royston`s ability has never been questioned. You don`t play for Real Madrid without being a top, top player.’

‘Even in these first couple of weeks he`s shown he`s got a great change of pace and a lovely left foot. He will definitely excite the fans and get them on their feet. They will look forward to seeing him.”

I am certainly one of those fans looking forward to seeing him, he has a massive amount to offer our side. It is rare we have star-studded players in our side – it will make a nice change!
