Vital Reading Season Preview

Club: Birmingham City

Founded: 1875

Nickname: The Blues

Ground: St. Andrews (Capacity: 30,016)

When we face off: Sat 28th September (H), Sat 22nd March (A)

Last season finish: 12th – Championship

Manager: Lee Clark – The former Huddersfield manager arrived at the Midlands club last year with high expectations, but financial troubles affected Clark’s transfer window progressions. At the age of 40, Clark still has a lot to learn, but has shown the early credentials to be a top flight manager in the future.

Key player: Chris Burke – The Scotland international is constantly linked with a move away from the Blues, but while he is still there, he is one of the best wingers in the Championship. He has great experience at Championship level and has all the great qualities that a winger needs.

Season Preview: Birmingham are still being troubled by previous financial downturns, so have not been largely active in the transfer market as of yet. However, Clark has managed to bring in his former striker Lee Novak from Huddersfield, as well as signing promising youngsters Dan Burn and Kyle Bartley on loan. Clark has a young squad to work with, so will need to add more some more experience if they don’t want to be in a relegation battle come the end of the campaign.
