With the League of Ireland season coming to an end last week, a defender called Conor Powell has been released by Bohemians after the Dublin club could not afford to offer him a new deal. They are in financial crisis and cannot offer Powell any kind of offer to stay at the club, despite being desperate to keep him.

He played his last game on Friday for the club in a 3-1 win over Dundalk but has now left and will have a short holiday before looking to earn himself a move away from Ireland.

Powell was the longest serving player at ‘Bohs’ despite being just 25, and the Irish Herald has reported that he we are going to make a move for him, if there is space in our squad.

A defender is probably last on our shopping list, especially a left sided one, but with our success of signing players from the Irish League it may be a move that Brian McDermott would be in favour of.
