Striker Shane Long, who had been out of contract at the end of the season, has commited his future to the club by signing a new 2 year deal which will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2012.

Long is currently the clubs first choice striker after spending most of his Royals career playing second fiddle to the likes of Kevin Doyle and Dave Kitson.

Only club captain Ivar Ingimarsson has been at the club longer than Long and of the current squad, he has scored the most goals in the blue and white hoops.

Whilst this season has only seen him score 2 goals, both penalties, his work rate and commitment have ensured he is still one of the first names on Brian McDermott’s team sheet.
