The new Reading number nine, Hal Robson-Kanu, is still determined to prove his worth as a forward.

The Welsh international has raised a few eyebrows by taking the number nine shirt, despite being yet to prove himself as a natural forward. With Le Fondre exiting last month and Pogrebnyak the only recognised striker, Robson-Kanu is keen to prove his worth up top.

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, HRK said: ‘I enjoy playing as a striker. When I play there I feel I`ll be effective for the team and score goals so I`m looking forward to playing in my best position and when I do it`ll be about performing and maintaining that level.’

‘It`s disappointing to lose Alfie who was a top player but it`s a new chapter at the club and it`s now about players stepping up to the plate and achieving. It`s down to the manager to pick the best eleven for the benefit of the team but I think you get the best out of me up front.’

HRK earned a new, lucrative contract at the end of the 2012/13 season, where he had a good end to the season as a wide player, so that’s where I personally still see his future. Our striker shortage will give him the chance and will be willing to eat humble pie if he does well.
