Nick Hammond’s words rang true today, he said that midfielder James Harper would sign a new deal and today he did just that.

The 25 year old today signed a new two year deal which means he will now be at the Mad Stad until 2008

His current contract was about to expire and Reading fans were left pondering whether he would indeed sign another contract.

But after he put pen to paper Harper said: ‘Barring a catastrophe in the next few weeks, it looks like we’re going to be playing in the Premiership next season, and it will be great to be a part of Reading’s most successful ever side.

‘I’ve been here for five years now and the team have seen a lot of success in that time. It’s been five years of hard graft and hopefully soon we’ll be able to enjoy the fruits of all that hard work.’

Director of Football Nick Hammond added: ‘We’re delighted James has committed his future to the club, it’s an important signing for us.

‘I think his decision to stay here despite interest from other clubs is a clear sign of the ambition and potential that he sees here.’
