Hammond has been in the role of director of football since 2003, appointed shortly before Steve Coppell became the clubs manager.

He had been out of contract in the summer but Sir John Madejski has persuaded the former Royals goalkeeper to continue in his role for another three years.

He told the Official Site, ‘I am absolutely delighted that Nick has signed this new deal at the club. He has served Reading football club for a number of years now and has contributed to our success.’

Hammond has endured a difficult season after his appointment of Brendan Rodgers did not work out, however his close relationship with Brian McDermott has turned the clubs fortunes and he will be vital in keeping the clubs star players at the Mad Stad in the summer.
