Brian McDermott is back in the game, but not in management, reverting back to his old days of scouting.

The former Royals boss has reportedly agreed a three-year contract with Arsenal to work within their senior scouting department. It is a club that McDermott knows very well, having began and played the majority of his career there, where he scored 12 goals in 61 appearances.

Brian has been out of the job since he was sacked by Leeds in May and after failing to get a job anywhere else, has gone back to scouting, where he made a name for himself here. He worked his way up to chief scout with Reading, before being appointed first team manager in 2009.

It’s a shame to not see him back in management, especially after the success he had with us, but maybe he feels it’s time to return to his scouting roots. His track record of player recruitment here is superb, with many of the 106 squad bargains being down to his eye for talent.
