Five things I learnt from the Fulham Debacle

Reading crumbled and put in the first ‘poor’ performance of the season. Here are five things I learnt from the game:

We have some great attacking options-

During the first 45 minutes, Reading’s attacking four showed exactly what they can do, especially with Piazon’s goal. Vydra is a very different player to what I thought and he Piazon and Blackman can linked the midfield and Striker fantastically.

Our defence can be cut open-

Before Saturday’s affair, Reading defence has been phenomenal. However, Saturday showed that when a team, like Fulham, start to play some good attacking football, our defence can be cut open. This is quite a worrying sign and could be something for Clarke to look at.

The Reading fans were fantastic-

The 4,000 Reading fans should be proud of themselves. They filled the pubs in Putney, creating a cracking atmosphere before the game and then took this into the ground, until the collapse.

There were enough defensive players on the pitch to stop the collapse-

Many people say that Clarke got it wrong and played too many attacking players and I disagree. With Norwood and Williams sitting in front of the back four, there should be enough protection to stop this collapse in five minutes. Norwood and Williams were far from their best and our defence were carved open. Nothing to do with Clarke’s team selection, in my opinion.

The Championship is a great league-

This was one of those games that can happen in this intriguing league. Fulham are far from the best team we’ve played, but a mad five minutes saw us lose a game we never should have. It’s a match you’ve got to take on the chin and move on very quickly.
