Steve Coppell has warned clubs sniffing around Kevin Doyle or Steve Sidwell in the transfer window that they can forget it.

The Reading boss, who received the LMA award on behalf of his team for the performance of the week , is insistent that no first-team players will be leaving the Madejski Stadium in the foreseeable future.

‘No-one will be leaving this club in January. It’s a promise from me – no-one will leave unless we want them to go.

‘There will be other things going on but none of the players who have figured so far will be leaving.’

But Coppell did reveal: ‘I have had one bid for a player but he is not one who is on most people’s radars.’

On the subject of Doyle, Coppell explained:

‘No-one has rung me about Kevin Doyle and nobody will. He is not going anywhere.’

And as for Sidwell?’

It is an exciting time for him but he is a player who wants to play and he knows he will play here,’ he said.

‘If he goes somewhere else and becomes part of a rotational squad then there might not be the job satisfaction he has at the moment.

‘In an age when, I’m afraid, it is all about money, it will be interesting to see where job satisfaction comes.

‘We are planning to talk to him about staying here and I know what will bring him round, but I don’t control that.

‘We are the club we are and the chairman has gone on record saying he will never mortgage the club to retain Premiership status.’

But things are looking positive on the Sidwell front, the midfielder is expected to negotiate a new deal in days to come.

Meanwhile Kevin Doyle`s immediate future at Reading has has been confirmed, he signed a contract extension earlier today.

But what we at Vital Football are wondering is who Reading have received a bid for and who from?.?

Excellent news! We’ve got a small enough squad as it is, let alone without two of our best performers this season. The fact that they’re both 23 is obviously significant from our point of view as they have massive futures ahead of them – hopefully with us!
