Derby (A) Match Preview

After a two-week break for both of these teams, it was straight back into action on Saturday and now this midweek’s game. Nigel Clough’s side were on a fine run of games a month ago but have tailed off as late, failing to win in there last three Championship games. Reading however are slowly putting together a play-off push, with two wins on the bounce without conceding.

Vital Quotes:

Derby coach Johnny Metgod – ‘They [Reading] are very experienced and they know exactly what it takes to win games. They just wait for those one or two opportunities to come along from maybe Kebe, Le Fondre when he comes on as a sub, Church, Roberts or Hunt – they have got players who can score a goal out of nothing.’

Reading midfielder Mikele Leigertwood – ‘It’s obviously a good feeling to be back playing and to be back winning as well. With the games coming thick and fast now you have to do everything to get yourself right, anything that will aid the recovery – ice baths, massages, etc!’

Derby Team News:

England U21 goalie Frank Fielding is expected to continue in goal, despite picking up a knock on Saturday. Defender John Brayford isn’t expected to be fit, while striker Theo Robinson could return following a calf problem.

Player to watch: Jamie Ward

The little maestro is capable of creating something out of nothing, with his sheer pace and skilful ability down the wing or up top.

Reading Team News:

Reading have some injury problems as Andy Griffin & Shaun Cummings are both out through injury, which will mean Matt Connolly will carry on in the right back spot. Captain Jobi McAnuff has a groin problem and will have to have surgery, while a gentleman’s agreement means Tomasz Cywka will not play any part in the game, following his free transfer move from the Rams last month.

Player to watch: Jimmy Kebe

The incredibly-pacey winger seems to be back to his best and will certainly cause the Rams defence a lot of problems.

Match Facts & Stats

Reading 2 – 2 Derby

Robsinson (59) Le Fondre (65,77)

Cywka (75)

Match Prediction:

It will be a very tough game as Nigel Clough seems to have cracked the Derby nut in all of his time there. I can see this being a 1-1 draw.
