Reading defender Stephen Kelly has said he is glad he moved to the Madejski Stadium this summer, claiming it was the best decision he has made in his career.

The 29-year old has come straight into Brian McDermott’s starting XI and has put in some very consistent performances, conceding just four goals in four games when he has been in the side. Kelly was struggling for first team football at Fulham, so made the £1.3 million move to Berkshire in January.

Speaking to talkSPORT, the Republic of Ireland international said: ‘I was speaking to my wife the other day and we couldn’t believe how easy the transition has been. It’s been seamless, regardless of what happens now and for the rest of the season, coming here is the best decision I’ve made in football.’

Many Royals fans have impressed with Kelly and his superior experience in this division is already showing. He kept some very talented wingers in Adam Johnson and James McClean quiet on Saturday and will have to be at his best again this Saturday against Stoke, where he is likely to come across Matthew Ethrington.
