Reading striker Nick Blackman has expressed his delight at earning his Premier League debut.

The 23-year old signed from Sheffield United in January for a fee around £1.2 million, after an impressive scoring record in League One. Nick came on as a substitute against Sunderland on Saturday and won the free kick that led to our winning goal.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Blackman said: ‘It was a great result for us – the boys really dug in and it was great to be a part of it. Everyone could see how hard we worked and the gaffer won’t let that drop. The gaffer said ‘go and score the winner’ which showed he has great faith in me.’

‘It was brilliant – the fans were fantastic and right behind the boys. Even when we went to 1-1 they were right behind me and the rest of the team. I was aware that one or two clubs were interested so it was a surprise – but as soon as I heard Brian was interested in me, there was only one place I wanted to go.’
