Reading defender Matthew Connolly could be set for a permanent move to the club, according to several reports on Twitter.

The 24-year old signed from Queens Park Rangers on loan on January Deadline Day and has been impressive on loan with the Royals. He has made six appearances in total but his season was hindered by an ankle injury he suffered at Millwall in February.

Connolly has played all of his games for Brian McDermott on the right side of defence, despite primarily being a centre-back. The fee believed to be able to acquire the services of the former Arsenal player is around £900k, similarly to his counterpart Kaspars Gorkss.

Along with Gorkss, Connolly played a big role in QPR’s promotion back in 2011 and picked up his second winners medal with the Royals on Sunday. Other defenders that have been linked with the Berkshire side are Tottenham’s Ledley King and Aarhus’ Adam Eckersley.
