New signing Matt Connolly has said he is pleased with his loan to the Madejski Stadium and is keen to get going.

The former Arsenal trainee signed from QPR yesterday on a loal deal until the end of the season. After missing out on Wayne Bridge, McDermott was keen to bring in another defender, with the Rangers defender surplus to requirements at Loftus Road.

Connolly told the Reading Evening Post: ‘Reading is a great club – the foundations are there with a very good stadium and a nice training ground. It`s really nice to get everything sorted and to be here. It is an exciting time at the club at the moment too.’

‘I spoke to Mikele and Gorkssy before I came here and they said great things about the club. And I spoke to the manager and he seems like a really good guy – and of course Gorkss and Mikele both told me he was a very good manager, so I`m looking forward to working here.’

The 23-year old is a very versatile player who can play anyhwere along the back four, primarily at centre-back. With Bongani Khumalo having his loan cut short due to lack of first-team action, this could turn out to be a crucial coup for McDermott.
