Reading have had bids for two big name players hijacked by Premier League clubs, with the players believed to be Wayne Bridge and Keith Andrews.

Bridge, 31, was reportedly all set to join the Royals on a shock loan deal but once Bridge knew of Sunderland’s interest, the former England international chose to stay in the Premier League. He signed a deal with the Black Cats on a similar loan deal.

Andrews was also believed to be on his way to the Madejski Stadium, after he rejected the initial deal that Championship rivals Ipswich offered him. However, Premier League side West Brom enquired about the possibility of signing the Republic of Ireland international.

The 31-year old now looks all set to join the Baggies, which will almost put to bed any other transfer dealing this window for the Royals, despite McDermott admitting his attempts. He was also keen on long-term target Craig Mackail-Smith and Swindon’s Matt Ritchie.
