Reading have confirmed the signing of QPR Matthew Connolly on loan until the end of the season on this busy deadline day.

The former Arsenal trainee has become surplus to requirements at Loftus Road, despite many people around the club saying he has a big future. He had made 6 appearances in the Premier League so far this season under Neil Warnock.

Royals boss Brian McDermott: ‘We think this is a really good signing and he`s played in the Premier League six or seven times this season as well as 30 odd times with Kaspars Gorkss last season. We`ve tried a couple of other avenues and missed out on a few players who have gone to the Premier League.’

The 24-year old can play anywhere along the back four but is primarily a centre back, which was high on McDermott’s wish list after the move for Karleigh Osbourne broke down. QPR do not have a recall option on Connolly.

A current Royals defender that knows him well is former Rangers defender Kaspars Gorkss. On his twitter acount, Gorkss tweeted how he was excited to see him again. Both were key members of QPR’s Championship winning season last term.
