Reading’s FA Cup bid for this season ended at the first hurdle with a 3rd round exit at the hands of last seasons beaten finalists Cardiff when they lost 2-0.

Reading missed several chances through Bobby Convey, who lost his head when through on goal in the first half, with Cardiff ‘keeper Peter Enckelman denying Shane Long from point blank range just after the break. Leroy Lita then had an effort cleared off the line by Gabor Gyepes. These missed chances came back to haunt the visitors as the hosts went ahead just before the hour when Ross McCormack (57) headed home. Victory was assured when Joe Ledley (83) tucked home the second.
