Reading midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson is set to sign a player-coach deal at the club, according to the Daily Star.

The 36-year old’s current deal expired in June, but has continued to train with the side and could be set to sign a new deal which would make him a coach at the club, as well as continuing his playing career. He made a late substitute appearance in our last game with Birmingham in May, which was only his third appearance of the campaign.

Rumours circulated that Gunnarsson could be set to take the role as Iceland U21 manager, but those rumours appear to be wide of the mark. The former Watford player has been at the Madejski Stadium since 2005 and become a popular figure among Royals fans during his seven-year tenure, with his great versatility, composure and class.
