It’s rare you would see a former England international pleased to join Reading, but Wayne Bridge said he was delighted to make his move to Berkshire.

The 32-year old completed his free transfer on Wednesday night and was confirmed to the media yesterday morning. Bridge turned down QPR in the process, after Harry Redknapp made it public knowledge that he wanted to sign the left-back, but claims that he wants to achieve promotion with Nigel Adkins’ side.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website after signing for the Royals on Thursday, Bridge said: “I`m delighted to be signing for Reading and excited to be joining a team that is going to be looking for promotion next season. I spoke to the manager and he told me about the direction he wants the team to go in.’

‘Everything we talked about was positive – and he was really positive about signing me which means a lot. And, from the outside, Reading look like a team who are capable of getting back into the Premier League, a team that works hard for each other. That is something I want to be a part of and I`m really looking forward to next season.”

People have questioned Bridge’s motivation in recent years, but these quotes suggest otherwise, he certainly seems up to the challenge. The majority of Royals fans are agreed that it is a very astute signing, with Bridge adding great experience and there is certainly another good year left in those experienced legs.
