Reading manager Brian McDermott has said his squad need to forget about their disastrous defeat to Wigan.

The Royals dropped to second bottom in the table, after their embarrassing 3-0 loss to the Latics at the Madejski Stadium yesterday. Arouna Koné gave Roberto Martinez’s side the lead just before half time and the striker doubled the lead a minute later. A second half strike from Maynor Figueroa secured a crucial three points for the visitors.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website: ‘We have to write it off quickly. It won’t affect our mentality, that never changes win lose or draw. My mentality is to go forward, to train hard this week and prepare for Everton. There’ll be a lot of reaction because that’s what happens, but I don’t over-react to any result.’

‘We’ve had a bad day and we lost 3-0 at home which we never do. For the first 43 minutes there was nothing in the game. We had a chance when Jimmy Kebe hit the side netting at 0-0 but then they scored with a nailed-on handball, it’s difficult for the ref to see it but Caldwell admitted it himself to me after the game.’

I’m not sure if you can blame Brian for this defeat, but his decision to start Morrison over Pearce is a debatable one. Some fans have complained about his choice of formation and substitutions, but I didn’t have a problem with either. The substitution of Kebe was probably injury related, so needs to be cut some slack.
