It was one of the fixtures that Reading fans would have been looking out for and it will come quite early.

Former Royals boss Brian McDermott will return to the Madejski Stadium, since his sacking in March, on September 21st to take on Nigel Adkins’ new-look side. McDermott is only the second manager in the club’s history to lead them into the Premier League and will definitely receive a good reception from the fans.

It was probably a fixture that McDermott was looking out for too and speaking to the Official Leeds website, Brian said: ‘For me that will be a special game because I never really had a chance to say goodbye to anyone at the ground.’

‘So it will be nice to go back and say hello to a few people. I had 13 years there and I like to think I had a good time and I enjoyed my time there with the managers I worked under and as a manager myself. The fans were good to me there so it will be nice to go back.’

It will be strange to see Brian in the opposite dugout, but that’s football, we all move on. I don’t think that McDermott should see the sacking as unjustified, as it was certainly coming and even if it didn’t, it would have probably happened at the end of the season anyway!
