Reading have taken Newcastle Jets left-back Craig Goodwin on a two-week trial.
The 21-year old has impressed in the A-League, where the Royals have a strong scouting system, mirrored by the attempted signing of midfielder Tom Rogic in January. Goodwin can play anywhere across the left side and will jet over to Berkshire in the coming days.
Goodwin revealed in a club statement from the Jets: ‘It will be great to learn and experience the game over there. I can’t express enough how great an opportunity it is. You don’t get these chances every day, so for myself to have this chance is something I’m very thankful for. I don’t have any expectations.’
He has also gained one cap for the Australian under 23 squad, as well as representing the Australian Olympic football team in a qualifier last year. If any position needs to be strengthened at the moment, its on the left side of defence, but it appears that this lad will more of a long-term option if he impresses and signs.
