According to an article published in today`s Sun newspaper, talented American youngster Freddy Adu could be on his way to the Madejski Stadium.

The article suggests that Steve Coppell is looking into signing Adu on six month loan deal with designs to make the contract permanent by next summer. The paper claims that somewhere in the 5million region will be paid, a fee that is more then treble that paid for record signing Seol Ki-Hyeon.

Adu has been a starlet in the US since he made his Major League Soccer debut at the tender age of 14, making history as the youngest professional in US sports ever. He also holds the record as America`s youngest international.

It is though Freddy could be lured to the club by international team-mates Bobby Convey and Marcus Hahnemann.

And with the contracts of MLS players being owned by the League rather then the club, Adu could make the move to improve the reputation and rank of the league.

A source inside the MLS told the Sun: “If an offer comes in for Freddy it will be considered.

“The player`s wishes and desires would be involved in the process.”

Adu recently featured in his club D.C United`s victory over the New York Red Bulls to retain the Atlantic Cup. Celtic fans may also remember Adu`s stunning performance against them when D.C United stomped them 4-0 with Adu netting.

Although the addition of Adu would be a great asset to Steve Coppell`s paper-thin team, we still await any official statement from the club.
