Adkins still wants improvement

Nigel Adkins has warned his side cannot go into the remaining two games feeling relaxed, saying they still have the potential to improve.

The Royals picked up their first victory of the Adkins era last week against Fulham, in a superb 4-2 victory. After witnessing what his side can be capable of, Adkins wants his side to continue that and even improve on that showing in their final games of the season against Manchester City and West Ham.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC website, Adkins said: ‘We have two games left and both games will be very challenging, we’ve got to keep building on the progress we’ve made. We’ve got to get as many messages into the players as possible before the start of pre-season. We know next season will be relentless and we want to play winning football.’

‘You always put pressure on yourself to perform and to build. If you go into a game too relaxed then you can get turned over in a big way. On Saturday the players worked really hard and did a lot of things we talked about in preparation for the game, credit to them for carrying it out in a big way. We were delighted to get the winning feeling back.’

It’s great to see Adkins wants to see even better than what he saw against Fulham, although I doubt we will see another performance like that in the last two games. The way Adkins is speaking is making it sound like our pre-season has already started and it probably is a fair assessment of the approach to the final week of the season.
