Nigel Adkins was very upbeat as ever, probably helped by his side’s 1-0 victory over Ipswich yesterday.

The Royals picked up their first victory of the league campaign yesterday in a scrappy game with Mick McCarthy’s side, with Jake Taylor’s first half goal separating the sides. While it was far from a classic, Adkins was delighted with the determination his side showed.

Speaking to the Official Reading FC site, Adkins said: ‘It was great for the supporters, we had 8 Academy players get on the pitch, 12 of the 18 have come through the system, we scored a good goal through Jake Taylor, had to fix bayonets late on because Ipswich are a big side.’

‘The crowd got behind every one of the players, the lads showed great heart and desire to work for each other, and I loved the whole game, clean sheet and a 1-0 win at home! There will be ups and downs, today is an up so we’ll enjoy it, but keep our feet on the ground.’

It wasn’t the best game and despite it being fairly disjointed throughout, three points is a great feeling, especially with the young side we finished the game with. Adkins rightly praised them for their attitude and effort, which certainly got them through the game.
