Here is what the two managers had to say after the 2-5 away victory for Reading at Ninian Park against Cardiff City.

Steve Coppell

‘At 3-0 we had the game won but to Cardiff’s credit they fought back and we needed to raise a gear.

‘Fortunately my players are a good bunch of lads and they did just that but although it looked a comfortable win it was far from it.

‘It is a strange situation when you reach your season’s target with five or six games still left as you wonder how the players will react.

‘We are excited about the prospect of playing at the top stage and I hope we can give a good account of ourselves but I just don’t know,’

Dave Jones

‘We don’t want a good season to just fizzle out and it is up to the players to try and hold on to our position.

‘It could have been a respectable defeat if you take away all the defensive mistakes.

‘You cannot make mistakes like that at any level of football. Darren Purse had a nightmare out there today but that’s his first poor game all season.

‘All the goals came from errors and it is all the more disappointing after pulling it back to 3-2.’
