The League Cup season continued with the latest round of matches played during midweek.

Not a round that really saw any upsets with the majority of those expected into the quarter-finals making it – arguably West Ham’s win against Chelsea was the only one.

Here’s a round up of the Premier League action from the other matches played.

Arsenal’s quarter-final place was secured on Tuesday after a goal in each half was enough to see of Jaap Stam’s Reading two-nil with Hull holding off another Championship side with the Premier League strugglers beating Bristol City two-one.

Norwich were beaten in the only penalty shootout of the round by Championship rivals Leeds, which came after a two-all draw at Elland Road.

Tottenham and Preston’s cup hopes ended in defeats at Liverpool and Newcastle, respectively, with the Newcastle win a crushing six-nil one at St James’ Park.

Wednesday night saw the conclusion of the round with Sunderland’s struggles continuing, the League Cup offered no rest bite with Southampton winning one-nil at St Mary’s.

Crowd trouble once again at West Ham overshadowed the Hammers’ two-one win over London rivals Chelsea with the Manchester derby edged by Manchester United with Manchester City’s winless run extending to six-matches after Jose Mourinho saw off old rivals Pep Guardiola one-nil at Old Trafford.
