The Championship season continued with the latest round of matches played over the weekend.
Newcastle remain out front and clear in automatic promotion, with Brighton clear in second too. Wigan, Blackburn and Rotherham, who are cut adrift, stay in the bottom three.

The impressive Newcastle run went on with Rafa Benitez overseeing a two-one win over Cardiff at St James’ Park, meaning the Bluebirds have now lost back-to-back matches after Neil Warnock had previously been unbeaten.
A man with connections to Newcastle previously is Steve McClaren with him leading Derby to a three-two win over Wolves, who are continuing to see a bitterly disappointing season after the takeover go on.
Steve Bruce has made an instant impact at Aston Villa; he oversaw another Villa win as they came from a goal-down to beat Blackburn. A much needed Rovers win had been on but after going ahead they were soon pegged back before losing two-one at Villa Park.
Huddersfield’s promotion bid has stuttered slightly of late, a home point had to be accepted in a one-one draw against promotion rivals Birmingham.
Also seeing a promotion bid stalling slightly are Norwich, beaten by Leeds on penalties in the League Cup recently the Canaries lost out in a five-goal match at Carrow Road in a three-two defeat.
It’s already looking as though Rotherham will do well to stay up, a three-one home defeat didn’t do anything to help the Millers but this win for Preston saw a reaction to the defeat against Newcastle when PNE probably deserved more the weekend prior.
A play-off place was very much consolidated by Reading with Wigan left very much in relegation trouble after the Royals ran out convincing three-nil winners at the DW Stadium to move up to fourth.
The three-points gap to Newcastle is what Brighton retained by beating Bristol City two-nil at Ashton Gate with Albion now having a five-point cushion between them and third placed Huddersfield.
