Bristol City are three unbeaten but the five points from these games hasn’t been enough to keep them out of the bottom three. Should the Robins manage to beat promotion chasing Huddersfield at Ashton Gate on Friday they would get out of the relegation zone until Saturday at least. Town would close to within three points of the top two with a third straight win.
Three defeats in five has seen Sheffield Wednesday’s play-off place come under threat with another slip up against promotion rivals Reading on Friday potentially proving critical. The Royals form is identical to the Owls’ in the last five with defeat seeing their place coming under pressure.
Blackburn’s six game unbeaten run has taken Rovers out of the bottom three with Tony Mowbray’s side staying out of trouble with a win on Saturday against rivals Preston at Deepdale. The recent North End form has taken them to within six points of the play-offs.
Nottingham Forest and Derby will be under new management for the first time having appointed Mark Warburton and Gary Rowett – respectively – ahead of this derby at the City Ground. Forest are only two points above the relegation zone with the Rams planning for next season having slipped away from play-off contention.
Having won just twice in the last 10 Birmingham are in danger of dropping into a relegation battle. Newcastle’s visit to St Andrew’s isn’t going to make things any easier with the Magpies – having lost for a first time in the last 10 last weekend – looking for a win that would ensure they stay top whatever title rivals Brighton do.
A six game unbeaten Burton run has left the Brewers in with a good chance of staying in the Championship. Brentford have suffered back-to-back defeats ahead of the game at the Pirelli Stadium, the Bees aren’t going to want a third.
Cardiff’s failure to win in four has seen the Bluebirds’ bid to finish in the top 10 suffer a setback. Ipswich head to the Cardiff City Stadium unbeaten in eight but have drawn seven of these games including the last six.
Eight without defeat has taken Fulham to a place and a point from the top six. The Cottagers know a win at Craven Cottage against Wolves – who have won the last two and are unbeaten in three – could take them into the play-offs.
Norwich are without a win in six with the Canaries hosting Barnsley – who haven’t won in five – with both clubs now looking to merely finish in the top 10.
One defeat in six has taken QPR well clear of the relegation zone and the R’s will look to move further clear when Rotherham visit Loftus Road. The Millers are 22 points from safety and cut adrift at the bottom of the league.
Wigan have slipped five points from safety having lost two of the last three. A victory against Aston Villa – who have won four of the last five – at the DW Stadium would boost these survival chances.
A top six finish should be sorted for Leeds but it’s not assured. Title chasing Brighton head to Elland Road already knowing what rivals Newcastle have done as they’ll play earlier in the day before Albion look to react to that result.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
